How do you use Furniture Wax?

Furniture Wax is a versatile, soft-wax finish composed primarily of beeswax with a touch of carnauba wax. It is specifically designed to provide a long working time and a durable, matte sheen on both raw wood and painted surfaces.

  • Preparation: Begin with a surface that is clean, dry, and free from any dust or debris. If you are applying the wax over Real Milk Paint®, ensure the paint is fully dry before beginning.
  • Initial Application: Using a soft, lint-free cloth or a wax brush, apply a thin, even layer of Furniture Wax. Work the wax thoroughly into the surface, ensuring you cover all areas. The soft consistency of this wax makes it easy to manipulate into detailed carvings or recessed areas.
  • Buffing: After the wax has been applied, use a clean, dry cloth to buff the surface. Continue buffing until you reach your desired level of matte luster.
  • Building the Finish: For increased protection or a deeper patina, you may apply additional coats. Allow each layer to dry adequately before applying the next to ensure a hard, non-tacky finish.

Pro Tips for Decorative Effects:

  • Clear Wax: Use Clear Furniture Wax for a natural look; it is specially formulated not to turn white in deep crevices or detailed grain.
  • Colored Waxes: Use Dark Brown, Gray, White, or Ebony waxes to create an aged patina or a "cerused" effect. These colors will settle into the grain and recesses to highlight the character of the piece.
  • Sealing Paint: Furniture Wax is an excellent topcoat for sealing milk paint, providing a velvety feel and water resistance.
