How do you use Hemp Oil?

Applying Hemp Oil is a simple, rewarding process that brings out the natural beauty of wood without the need for harsh chemicals. Because it has a thin viscosity, it absorbs readily into the wood fibers using the following steps:

  • Surface Preparation: Start by ensuring your wood is clean and free of any dust or old finishes. For the best results, sand the wood to your desired smoothness. Finer sanding can help the oil absorb more evenly and highlight the intricate details of the grain.
  • Initial Application: Using a clean, lint-free cloth or a brush, apply a generous coat of Hemp Oil to the surface. Work in the direction of the grain, ensuring the oil is distributed evenly across the piece.
  • The Penetration Window: Allow the oil to soak into the wood for 40–60 minutes. This time is crucial, as it allows the oil to fully saturate the pores and provide protection from within.
  • Building the Finish: To achieve maximum protection and a rich, deep color, we recommend applying 3–5 coats in total. Allow the oil to soak into the wood between applications until you reach your desired level of saturation.
  • Removing Excess: After the penetration period, use a fresh, clean cloth to wipe away any oil remaining on the surface. This prevents the finish from becoming sticky and ensures a smooth, matte feel.
  • Curing: While the oil will be dry to the touch relatively quickly, it follows a specific curing schedule. It reaches a partial cure in 15 days and a full cure in 30 days. During this time, the oil hardens through oxidation. Ensure the surface has plenty of airflow and avoid placing heavy objects or liquids on it until the 30-day window is complete.
