How do you use Milk Paint?

Real Milk Paint is a unique, powder-based paint that you mix fresh for every project. This traditional process allows you to control the consistency and ensures a beautiful, matte finish.

  • Mixing the Paint: * Combine the Milk Paint powder with water using a 1:1 ratio (equal parts powder and water).
    • Add the powder to the water and stir until the mixture is fully blended and smooth.
    • The Resting Period: Let the mixture sit for approximately 20 minutes. This allows the natural pigments and ingredients to fully dissolve. Give it one more stir before you begin painting.
  • Initial Application: Apply the paint evenly to your surface using your preferred tool. A brush is excellent for a traditional look, while a foam roller or rag can be used depending on the texture and finish you want to achieve.
  • Drying Time: Allow the first coat to dry completely, which typically takes 1–2 hours depending on your environment.
  • Adding Coats: If you need more coverage or a deeper color, apply a second coat once the first is dry.
  • Important Note: We recommend applying no more than two coats. Adding too many layers can lead to cracking or flaking, as the paint is designed to be a thin, durable finish.
